I made a couple of Mommy and Me Adalynn dresses sewing patterns for Baby Girl and me. You can find them here. My original plan was to make them before we left on vacation and use them as swimsuit cover ups. I used a lightweight teal t-shirt fabric from Wal-Mart. However, I did not get to finish them in time. So, no fun beach pictures this time.
I always have so many projects I want to sew for vacation and I never get everything done before we leave. It has rained almost every day since we have been back and it is not slowing down anytime soon. I think we are supposed to get around 4 inches of rain in a three day period. Today it actually warmed up a bit, so Baby Girl was excited when I asked her if she wanted to jump in water puddles with me today!
What is more fun that jumping in water puddles in the rain? Yes, in the rain! I was able to get a few pictures of us in our dresses before she needed a jacket to help keep her warm. I made the ladies version of the Adalynn dress sewing pattern in the classic swing option. I still have a Mommy belly and it hid it nicely. I am only 5’0″ so I cut the hem off at the ruffle line and I may need to take off a few more inches, depending on if I decide to hem the bottom of the dress. Both of the dresses in this picture were both left unhemmed.
The Adalynn dress sewing pattern would look cute with a belt under the bust too when using the classic version. Next time, I would like to try the semi-fitted or the fitted versions. I always like to make a pattern first, before I try other versions to see the fit.
Baby Girl’s Adalynn dress was super comfy and she loved it. It was not too tight that she could not jump around in the puddles and have fun. I have not hemmed it, so the length looks a little long. Although she does seem to like longer dresses, just as I did when I was a kid. It started to get a little chilly with all the rain coming down, so I paired her Adalynn dress with her Stay Cozy Jacket sewing pattern.
The minky fabric lining helped keep her warm and dry. This was actually her second time today jumping in the puddles today and the temperature was actually dropping. The first time was after we got home from the gym (trying hard to get rid of the Mommy belly) and I still had tennis shoes on. I told her I would see if I had some shoes to jump in the puddles with her to go out again.
Honestly, I really just wanted to get pictures of us in our dresses, but we ended up having a great time. Even though my black boots, were not rain boots and my socks were soaked. I guess I need to invest in some rain boots for myself. We both had fun jumping in puddles, especially Baby Girl.
We did not stay out as long this time. First off, the temperature was really starting to drop and getting a bit chilly. Secondly, she was starting to get tired. If you notice in the first picture she has her hands in my sleeves. That is what she does when she is tired. My son plays with my hair when he is tired and she puts her hands in my sleeves.
So we jumped in the puddles one last time before we went inside. She was so sad her dress was wet and did not want to change. I finally convinced her to change about 15 minutes later she was ready for her nap.
I look forward to making more Mommy and Me Adalynn dress sewing patterns. I want to try the other two versions with some more fun fabrics too! You can buy the sewing patterns here.
