Women’s Mya Maxi Skirt Sewing Pattern by Petite Stitchery is a new favorite sewing pattern of mine. You can find it here. You may remember my Mya maxi skirt in baby French Terry. I wore that skirt almost every day as my swimsuit cover up to the beach. The maxi skirt sewing pattern from Petite Stitchery was about to release the day I was leaving for vacation. As part of the Petite Stitchery promotions team, I begged to see if I could get the pattern a day early because I knew I needed it for my vacation and already had the perfect fabric.
We joined my husband’s parents and brothers and their families on this vacation, so we decided were going to get family pictures. My wonderful sister in law and I picked out a color scheme for the photo and even collaborated on a Family Beach Pictures Pinterest Board.
We based our beach family photos color palette off this photo we found here on pinterest. As you can see my aqua fabrics fit almost perfectly within the scheme. I will show you more photos of our family when I get the pictures of our family. I still need to send her our final submissions. If you need a Destin Photographer, I highly recommend, TCR Photography. She did a wonderful job and I cannot wait to show you the pictures. The pictures in this post were taken by my lovely Mother in Law.
So back to the women’s maxi skirt sewing pattern….
One of the wonderful things about this women’s maxi sewing pattern is you can make it using knit fabric or woven fabric! You just have to use a knit waistband. I did not get any pictures of the waistband, however there are several stylish options to choose from. You can see more of the options here.
My first attempt at this skirt I made a knit maxi skirt to get an idea for sizing. This time, I used an aqua ombre chiffon woven fabric. I purchased the fabric at Joann fabric, however they no longer have it in stock for online ordering. You can check here to see if your local store has it in stock. I actually have 4 Joann locations within a 30 mile radius, so I always check the stock for each store. You may also be able to find some ombre chiffon fabric on Etsy or on ebay.
The ombre chiffon fabric also came in pink, blue, and purple. I may have purchased all the colors except the purple. Only because none of the stores near me had the purple.
Since the fabric is sheer, it does need a lining. Since, I received the sewing pattern the night before vacation and I had already made my knit maxi skirt. I was running short on time. So, I may have cheated just a bit on the lining…
As you can get a quick glance in the above fabric, I just used my baby French Terry maxi skirt my lining. So, I am technically wearing two skirts in this photo. I plan to add a lining to the skirt, now that we are back from vacation. I have not decided yet which fabric, I would like to use.
I will definitely be making more Mya women’s maxi skirt sewing patterns from Petite Stitchery. Mini and Knee length are also available options with this skirt sewing pattern. The sewing pattern includes actual pattern pieces for the skirt or they also give you the measurements. I used the measurements, as was in a hurry and chiffon fabric is on the easiest fabric to cut on the fold. The hardest part of this entire skirt was cutting the chiffon fabric. I recommend going slow, watch for wrinkles in the fabric and keep checking that the fabric is all aligned.
I paired my new favorite maxi skirt with my current fabric top, the Stella by Made for Mermaids. Off the shoulder is only one of the several options for the Stella sewing pattern. There are also several other open back options. I also made this top the night before vacation as well. I was literally up until 4:30 am. I only slept a few hours because I had to get my son off for a half day of school before we left. It was so worth it. I love this off the shoulder sewing pattern. I think I am up to 4 or 5 of them now. I have another planned for next week too!
For this off the shoulder Stella, I used a mint double brushed polyester from Knitpop. This DBP is one of the softest double brushed polyesters I have ever felt! This top will be worn a lot! I also used their ivory dbp for the waistbands of my two skirts.
I need some ideas for my other ombre chiffons, what should I make? I am thinking maybe some Mommy and Me swimsuit cover ups with the pink.
